Recently, Jan Bednarczuk wrote an excellent article on the people who frequent the alt.mcdonalds newsgroup. Here it is for your enjoyment:

There are several sorts of people that frequent this newsgroup.

• The McDonald's aficionados. These people genuinely enjoy eating at McDonald's, or at least would have us believe so. They know much McDonald's trivia. and often want to trade McDonald's paraphernelia.
• The McDonald's employees, both current and former. These people often have no great love for McDonald's. Sometimes they actively despise it and all it stands for. Sometimes they merely despise it, while approving of all it stands for. Sometimes they think it's just great. This is a highly variegated group.
• The vegans and animal-rights activists. These people definitely despise all that McDonald's stands for, or at least all that they believe it to stand for. McDonald's kills cows, and so must be fought against. Or so most of them would have you believe.
• The trolls. Hi, Geoff. Hi, Steve.
• The disbelievers. While these types cannot actually be said to _frequent_ this newsgroup, they often make cameo appearances. Often they will say such things as, "I can't believe you people actually talk about McDonald's!", or "Whoa, do you mean that this newsgroup is devoted solely to talking about McDonald's?"
• I was going to mention the people that post to this group merely to satisfy some odd personal vendetta against others. If I had mentioned these people, I probably would have also mentioned that they apparently post to the NG in a futile attempt to validate their own worthless lives. However, those people are currently on vacation, so I shall refrain.
